The Subjection of Women

From one of the earliest campaigners for women's rights comes a powerful defence of the rights of women. In The Subjection of Women, John Stuart Mill argued passionately for the equality of male and female at a time society separated the genders into separate spheres. He argued that by providing women the same rights as men - in education, politics, and society as a whole - it would provide benefits to society as a whole.
