If one travels far enough north along the River Ahnd, they may encounter a struggle between an enigmatic technomancer, a tribe of barbarian sorcerers from the mountains, and a group of True Believers all set on interacting with something that is getting ready to wake up. Is solving the mystery of the cave worth all the trouble of getting in between three competing factions? Politics! Religion! Violence! What could be better?
