Først og fremst er det ikkje eit krav å ha lese A Song of Ice & Fire for å ha glede av Fire and Blood. Det vil nok berike lesinga, og ein har færre spørsmål kring navnekonvensjonar og titlar osb., men ein kan heilt fint nyte boka i seg sjølv. Eg vil anbefale å finne fram eit kart over Westeros, då dette ikkje er med, for å ha litt bedre kontroll på kvar ein er til ei kvar tid. Drakane er meir enn berre til pynt, for å seie det slik.
Boka er Martin sitt epos slik Silmarillion er for Tolkien. Det er eit langt narrativ skrive som ei historiebok av ein meister som ser bakover. Det blir referert til andre bokverk (innad i universet), brev og andre "kjelder" undervegs. Ein får ennotil fotnotar. Eg vil likevel påstå at det absolutt ikkje er tørr lesing, boka er tettpakka med drama og action på kvar ei side. Ein blir bergtatt av Targaryen-familien og påfunna deira heile vegen. Martin har skapa ei verd som heng saman og kjenns ekte, ingenting er tilfeldig. Eg som dei fleste har sett serien, og gler meg til framtidige moglege adaptasjonar av andre historier frå Fire and Blood - der er mange å ta av!
